It’s not just the switching between genre styles and tropes though - it also understands when to let up on the almost excruciating tension and when to pump the anxiety back up.Įven as you gradually gain a little more freedom of movement and ability to deal with what it throws at you, it finds new ways to destabilise, or at least surprise. It’s a bit like flicking through someone’s VHS horror collection though and watching an hour of each, isn’t it?
